    Garmin GPS

I've been running a TomTom for a number of years. I think I got it off of Woot for $35. Probably a refurb. It's been great, but they wanted $80 a year(?) for map updates. Sorry I just can't bring myself to spend $80 on a $35 GPS unit. I did subscribe to the traffic updates for a quarter. That was about $30.

I was thinking about subscribing again when I found out traffic updates were no longer available. Not sure if it was just for my GPS or the whole of TomTom.

I have been listening to Dan ( talk about GPS on his overlanding show and I thought, hmmm let's see what Garmin has to offer.

I decided on the Garmin Nuvi 57LMT 5-Inch GPS Navigator with lifetime maps and traffic.

    Purchased from Amazon for $114.95

But this meant my TomTom mount needed to be replaced. I like the RAM mount stuff but it's too pricey for me. The bit that holds the GPS (TomTom included) isn't that expensive, so for $12.95 I ordered a RAM-HOL-GA55U RAM Cradle Holder for Garmin nuvi from ebay.

I made a mount for the TomTom, just simple bent metal with some holes drilled in it, far from fancy. I decided to do the same for this unit.
